During WW1, Royal Navy warships were equipped with torpedo launchers.

After experiencing the Battle of WW1 Jutland, Royal Navy desperately realized that "the battleship has no access to enemy ships enough to shoot torpedoes, and even if it shoots, it doesn't fit anyway."

Nevertheless, they kept putting torpedo launchers, saying, "Isn't it good to have?" They also fit battleships built after the end of WW1, such as HMS Rodney and HMS Hood.

But is it good to have it real? First of all, all equipment costs a lot of money and weighs a lot. In particular, a torpedo can explode if it is struck by a red bullet. Even when HMS Hood was struck and bombed by Bismarck, Royal Navy suspected that the torpedo had been hit by a torpedo tube. (Photo 1 shows HMS Hood's torpedo tube port.)

These days, when advertising laptops, the sound of AI laptops is starting to come out. I wondered what it was, and I looked it up and found that it was equipped with the latest CPU such as Intel or AMD. A representative marketing hyper.

Since about two or three years ago, almost all CPU vendors have come equipped with an "AI accelerator." AI accelerator is an execution unit specialized in matrix computation. It is a development of the Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) unit, a sequence calculator that has existed since the past, into a two-dimensional matrix calculator.

Until now, it is difficult to find an application that uses such an AI accelerator properly. Python library and others provide such things, but there are few applications used by ordinary users like me.

But isn't it good to have an AI accelerator? I think it's like a torpedo tube of a battleship. It's obviously helpful, but most of them are rarely used. And the cost of developing and implementing the AI accelerator to the CPU (which is not actually used for anything) is divided by the general user.

** Is there a case that a light aircraft carrier is equipped with a torpedo launch tube? No. People who make and operate light aircraft carriers are smart and don't do such things.
