Actor Cho Jin-woong acknowledged that he made a mistake when he was a teenager. However, his agency said it had nothing to do with sexual assault. It is difficult to find out the truth about the case of underage over 30 years ago, but there are certain years that Cho has lived faithfully rather than hiding the past. The problem is that our society is still too harsh to judge people by leading the stigma of the past to the future.

Cho Jin-woong is a representative Korean actor who has shown heavy presence and overwhelming performance in numerous dramas. He has always produced more than his share of results in movies such as "The Handmaiden," "War on Crime," "Daeho," "Clowns," "The Clowns," "Perfect Man," "Signal," dramas, and "Readers of the Heart of Evil." There were more than a few scenes that drew people to wonder, "Was there such an actor in Korean movies?" His career and achievements on the spot prove his existence more than anyone else.

Is it justice for him to use a yardstick that shakes his life by citing a mistake made during his adolescence? Many of those who are at the center of power and politics in the Republic of Korea have past criminal records or controversy over illegality. Is a society that is generous to social leaders and repeats infinite punishment to individuals who have lived faithfully healthy.

Of course, apologies and self-reflection are natural if damage was caused. However, people can change. Efforts to become better people should be evaluated. Rather, society should send its support to those who overcome poor environment and times of mistakes to reach their current position. It is not a civilized society's job to ignore all changes with just one word, "traditional sweets."

Cho Jin-woong explained that using his father's name, not his real name, as his stage name was "not for the purpose of hiding the past, but for the determination to become a better person." If we can't even afford to accept that sincerity, how long will we keep a person's mistakes shackled for the rest of our lives.

What is needed now is not a "witch hunt" but a mature social perspective. A truly developed country is one that can applaud those who have contributed to society through time of self-reflection and growth. Cho has devoted himself to the Korean movie industry and is an actor who will continue to do so.

Therefore, I want to make an excuse to actor Cho Jin-woong.
He is worth more than 30 years of reflection and hard work than he made a mistake in the past.
It's time to look at the path he's built and evaluate it fairly.
