My parents taught me that money exists without money. I wrote before that I was embarrassed because I couldn't learn how different the ratio of the two was.

However, after a little more thought, this sentence was not intended to explain the phenomenon that occurs and disappears, but rather to tell us how we should treat money.

A few years ago, I went to a school to give a lecture. I remember going with a scientist who was a little older than me, and I had a really embarrassing experience at that time. When I was asked questions after the presentation related to my work, the question suddenly asked, "How much do you make?" It had nothing to do with the topic of the presentation, and it was a rude question at least under the environment in which I grew up. I hurriedly answered and moved on, and immediately there was a question about how much my annual salary was. Not only me, but also the person who went with me, looked embarrassed.

When I was in school, I also took a lecture on my career path. At that time, no one asked me about my salary. It's not because my salary was not important in determining my career, but because I was more curious and had more important questions. The process of choosing that job, the most enjoyable and difficult things of the day, etc.

As Korea grew, the income gap began to become clear at some point. According to the sentiment of Korea, which feels alive only when compared to others, it is probably natural that money has become the biggest concern of the whole people. In addition, I don't think that making money itself is fundamentally wrong or that we should be wary of it.

Nevertheless, I feel that Korean society has become sick since some time ago. It is by no means normal to forget about family, friends and dreams and respond only to money. Shouldn't we be alert to the fact that we have become the only country in the world that values money more than family? Where in the world should a speaker with career education question his annual salary? Should he teach his children like that?

Originally, this system, which we call capitalism and I call trustism, was expanded by ascetic Protestants among Christianity. It created a trust network based on a strong abstract system called "Protestant Ethics and Capitalist Spirit" and created overwhelming wealth by doing bigger things based on the trust network.

However, Korea's money discourse has no pride in ethics and social contribution. It is mainly based on the vulgarity of trying to grab a penny and shake it in front of others' eyes. The sense of vocation and pride are suffocated in the numbers written in the bank accounts.

This is not to say let's not make money or to be guilty of making money. In the middle of thinking about how to become rich, let's give them a chance to intervene in the worries about what kind of life to live. Where will you live with your two feet? I can't criticize the fact that it's an apartment in the metropolitan area, but I look at it on a slightly higher level, such as mission, love, friendship, adventure, and contribution.

In the end, material satisfaction has clear limits, and it is completely a lie to say that money determines class or human relationships. People who enter wealthy neighborhoods without philosophy and storylines start agonizing again from the ground up or fall into an extreme pleasure path due to cognitive dissonance.

At the end of the year, controversy over the lightness of the publishing market this year is hot. Personally, I think it is also dangerous to want to control what others read. Also, I don't think there is any need to reject the story of a person who has earned 100 billion won unconditionally, just as there is no need to accept the story of a person who has earned 100 billion won.

However, being sensitive to market demand does not necessarily make the world a better place. Look at drugs. That's why I think it is a difficult but meaningful attempt for opinion leaders to shift social discourse little by little with a sense of responsibility to society. It is our task to end the slavery culture that has existed for over a thousand years.
