Why did you go on a journey where death was almost certain and the chance of survival was only one in ten thousand?
The Story of the Old Law Travel of Monk Beophyeon, who Encourages Retired Retirees
When passing through the desert toward the West, there was no beast on the ground of a bird overhead.
It was impossible to predict where people lived in the desert, which was spread out in all directions. I just defended the sun and marked the milestone with a skeleton.
With the emergence of desert fever and demons several times, only death awaited us.
It is a record left by Monk Beophyeon as he passed through the Takramakan desert.
Joseon followed the Neo-Confucianism of Zhu Xi for 500 years. However, there was no single Joseon scholar who visited Muiam in Fujian Province in search of the life and virtue of Zhu Xi. It was only reciting lyrics imitating Muigugokga.
Buddhism has been introduced to China
Since then, more than 180 old monks have left for India alone.
They went on a difficult road to come back alive under the name of Xichen Qigyeong to bring back the Buddhist scriptures that were not in China.
The Buddhist priests in China were born and enlightened by the Buddha, and went on a journey of composition to pay their respects to the Four Great Holy Land, which they first preached and ate Nirvana.
There are three major Old Beopseung who left travel records among Indian Old Beopseung. (The most of them is the site. ‥)
Monk Beophyeon who left the Bulgukgi and the field monk who left the flag in the West
They are the priests who left Daedangseo Station's Old Beopjeong High School.
Numerous high monks appeared in Chinese Buddhism, but the most important people than the Zen monks and the Buddhist monks are the Cheokchuk Nine Beop monks and the Adversity monks.
Monk Beophyeon was the first Chinese monk to visit India. He visited India 200 years before the field monk. The travel record he wrote is Bulgukgi.
What's even more impressive is that he was 64 when he left for India. The purpose of leaving for India was to make a vow to go to India and get it for himself because Chinese Buddhism lacks a rule book.
Hyecho of Silla was a young man in his early 20s. A 64-year-old is the age of retirees.
These days, neither the scriptures nor the Yuljang are found on the bookshelf, and they do not open them. I think about their hearts who went on the path of death to bring back the scriptures and the Yuljang.
Beophyeon left for Cheonchuk with 11 dovans, but two died and six went back on their way. The two did not return from India, but returned to live alone by Beophyeon.
The pilgrimage to Beophyeon took 13 years. He made a pilgrimage to the eight holy sites of the Buddha and spent three years in Patna, the capital of the central axis, transcribing and studying the scriptures and regulations.
He transcribed Yuljang while staying for two years in Sri Lanka, the only Chinese Buddhist monk known as the Lion State.
He also kept records of its climate and various Buddhist events. He made a pilgrimage to more than 30 unknown countries, including India and Sri Lanka, and obtained the necessary royal court. When I went there, I went by land, but when I returned, I used the sea route.
His return via the Marine Silk Road was 900 years ahead of Markopolo.
When he returned to China, he was 77 years old. Beophyeon wrote Bulgukgi (Bulgukgi) by organizing his own stories for 13 years.
He then began translating the scriptures and rules with Buddha Baltara, who came from India.
The scriptures translated by Beophyeon include six volumes of the Great Banni Grand Sutra, 40 volumes of Maha Seunggi, and the fifth volume of the Jangahamgyeong, which remains incomplete.
He translated the decrees and scriptures he had been transcribing in India and Sri Lanka and entered nirvana at the age of 86. What a rare and holy life.
Beophyeon is a character of the Dongjin era.
His surname is Gong. He was born in Ongdan County, present-day Shanxi Province.
He is three brothers, but his two brothers died of illness because they were young. Fearing that the youngest would die, his father sent him to the temple and made him join the sangha. He was three years old at the time.
He was intelligent from an early age and did not commit against the precepts.
At the age of 64, he visited the Buddha's four major holy sites and left for a seowon to deliver the Yuljang, which is not in China.
It was the year 399 A.D. in the year of Hong Si-won, Dongjin.
