Police overwhelm oriental medicine clinic to treat victims of 'Moon Da-hye Drinking'..."We agreed, but it's unusual"

Police investigating the drunk driving case of former President Moon Jae In's daughter, Moon Da-hye, raided an oriental clinic visited by a taxi driver. Some experts point out that it is an unusual high-intensity investigation considering that an agreement has been reached between the victims and the perpetrators of the accident.

According to a CBS No Cut News report on the 25th, Yongsan Police Station in Seoul executed a search warrant for an oriental medical clinic in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, on the 23rd and secured related data, including a medical certificate of the victim taxi driver A. The police are expected to review the data and make a final decision on the charges to be applied to Moon.

Earlier, A completed an agreement with Moon and did not submit an injury certificate to the police. It is known that on the 9th, when A was investigated by the police, Moon's lawyer proposed a meeting and agreed.

As a result, it is difficult for the police to determine that A is injured, so it is expected that punishment will be imposed only on drunk driving charges under the Road Traffic Act. However, as the police set out to secure A's medical certificate, there is also a possibility that more serious charges could be added when the victim is injured.

At the time of the police's sobriety test, Moon's blood alcohol level was 0.149 percent, which was the level of his license cancellation. According to the provisions of the DUI penalty under the Road Traffic Act, such cases can result in imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than two years, or fines of not less than 5 million won and not more than 10 million won. However, if a victim is injured in a DUI accident, the level of punishment can be raised by applying the Special Act on Handling of Traffic Accidents or the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Crimes.

Many point out that the police's forced investigation is unusual when an agreement has been reached between the parties to the accident and the victim has not submitted a medical certificate. "The accident itself seems to have been minor (from the video)," said Jeong Kyung-il, a lawyer specializing in traffic accidents. "I wonder if this is an unreasonable investigation even though the victim has agreed and has not submitted a medical certificate."

Woo Myung-myung, a lawyer, said, "The victim did not submit a medical certificate, but it seems to be an unusual situation to search and seizure even the hospital he diagnosed." However, he added, "As it is a matter that is focused on, it may be seen that the police are rather trying to investigate clearly."

Moon is accused of driving drunk in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, at around 2:51 a.m. on the 5th of this month, causing a collision with a taxi while changing lanes. The police called Moon on the 18th to investigate. At the time, Moon released an apology and said, "I did a big thing that I should not do. I will live with self-reflection so that this will never happen again," and added, "I am grateful (to the victim) for accepting my apology after the accident."
