Now, I see some very strange PC comments about the Cheongna apartment fire that say we should stop loathing about 'Chinese batteries'...
The case is likely to be either a bad battery from China or a problem with Mercedes.
First of all, it is not a fire during charging, so it is not a problem of poor charger, one of the main causes of electric vehicle fire, and it is not a thermal runaway due to external shock because it was ignited in a car parked for a long time
(It's hard to say that a fire caused by an external shock is actually a battery-only problem. The internal combustion engine is also on fire.)
There are even a lot of comments from foreign communities saying that EQE batteries are not made in China, but possibly made in Korea. (Chinese Xiaopunhongs are working hard...) Not at all.
According to the 'direct' announcement by the senior Mercedes-Benz executive below, it is clear that EQE's battery cell is CATL NCM811, and Mercedes-Benz was also aware that this battery was a problem product with frequent fire accidents.
The key is how well Mercedes handled this problematic CATL battery cell, but what is certain is that the possibility of a Korean company taking a Chinese battery cell and delivering it to Benz after a post-processing operation is zero...
Either CATL or Benz is likely to be the cause...
=============
-The new EV EQE battery cell supplier is...
"The battery cells on the EQE are supplied by CATL."
-I know that the Chinese CATL NCM811 (nickel, cobalt, manganese) battery cells on EQS and EQE have had fire issues in the past. Any concerns about fire...
"We are fully aware of the battery problem through other companies' examples, and consumers do not have to worry about the batteries installed in Mercedes-Benz EQE at all. Mercedes-Benz guarantees all problems, and basically comes with a 10-year, 500,000-kilometer warranty for batteries."
-China-made battery cells are installed in EQE and EQS, which are popular in the Korean market including SUVs, and some Korean consumers do not have high confidence in Chinese battery cells. How do you feel about this...
" "Only the battery cells are from China, but other parts are made in cooperation with various national partners. Mercedes-Benz is responsible for both safety and future quality guarantees, so consumers don't have to worry about battery cell suppliers."
-The 'heat pump' introduced by various EV manufacturers for battery efficiency didn't apply to EQE either because...
"This is because we have secured sufficient battery efficiency without a heat pump. However, we can consider introducing a heat pump if necessary for future new cars. The view is that a heat pump is not needed at this time."
