In the early 17th century, tulip hoarding in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, was the first giant bubble in the history of capitalism. Wealth poured into the Netherlands, which ousted Portuguese forces from Indonesia and established the East India Company to take the lead in the spice trade. The world's first stock exchange was also established in Amsterdam to sell its stake in the East India Company and disperse the risk. Manhattan, New York City, the current center of the world's stock market, was New Amsterdam at the time.
The inflow of liquidity led to an increase in the value of assets. At the time, the wealthy in Amsterdam were interested in tulip bulbs, which were difficult to grow. It was a speculative craze for new and limited supply of assets. At one point, the price of a Augustus tulip root was hundreds of millions of won, which was the price of a house.
In Britain, which holds hegemony in the sea after the Netherlands, there was a speculative craze for South Sea Company shares. Stock prices rose almost tenfold as the country held monopoly over slave trade with South America and became a craze for the new continent with full support from the government and the royal family.
Handel and Newton also invested heavily. Newton lost nearly tens of billions of won. Namhae Corporation speculation is almost the first stock market bubble. It's an old and classical story, but these two speculative fever have a lot of implications.
They are the epitome of "herding" and "FOMO." Back then, most of the middle class in Amsterdam and most of the literate and wealthy in London joined the speculation and wanted to use the bubble. So the impact of the bubble burst was huge. Bubbles don't turn off when you are not sure. They grow until they jump in like a moth, thinking that there is no doubt. Then, they burst into tears at a fast pace when liquidity is overwhelming. Are the AI bubbles, symbolized by Nvidia, TSM, and microcomputers, in the early or late stages?
