Jeong Il-soon, the strongest female pirate in history: From a brothel to a wife of old masters
That year, the sea breeze was salty, and it was like a cut of fate.
Her name was Jeong Il-soon—a woman from the Cantonese New Society. She was kidnapped, sold, and forced to wander, but she eventually became a female pirate who ruled the South China Sea.
Her life always seemed to be carved with a knife.
First, fate sold her to a brothel.
Sixteen years old, she had to flatter the men who had come from the wind and the waves, and did not know then that fate was training her mind.
Second, fate dragged her back to the sea.
Jeong-il, the pirate boss, caught her and "married" her and brought her on board. Others regarded her as just a woman --
She won the trust of everyone on board with her calmness and cruelty.
After Jeongil died, she didn't cry.
She stood on deck and had more than 10,000 pirates bow their heads and call her "brother-in-law."
She reorganized the fleet, established military discipline, set reward and punishment, managed food, and taught training.
There were more than 70,000 pirates under her command and 800 ships—more than a small county in the Qing Dynasty at the time.
She led the fleet to defeat the Western ships, and both Portuguese and British wrote her name on the navigation log. Even the British Museum documented her life.
Western ships, which once came to loot the East, were pushed by her and avoided.
Later, she went to Guangzhou to negotiate with the government and accepted its surrender. 廷 Qing herded her into an old lady and transformed her from "red 寇" to "loyalist." Moreover, she devised a scheme in the 廷 and helped govern the coast.
A woman who was sold to a brothel was finally invited to sit in a government party and discuss liberation.
She died in Macau, and the legend was quiet.
There was no shelling, no waves. The sea resembled her lifetime - and inside it was as calm as a strong wave.
Her story is not romance, but blood-worn rebellion.
She was pushed all her life, but she never collapsed.
The more fate tried to plunge her into the water, the more she came from the bottom of the waves to the end of the waves.
She had men at her feet, and made both the empire and the pirates make terms with her.
When we talk about "female power" again,
She already wrote the answer 300 years ago with a knife and sea breeze.
