In 1987, an American girl accidentally fell into a 6.7m deep well. Years after being rescued, the story of the firefighter who saved her left...

In 1987, Reba took her one-and-a-half-month-old daughter, Jessica, to her aunt's house. Afterwards, she had Jessica play with the other children in the backyard and she was talking inside the house.

Sitting for a while, Reba heard the children screaming. I hurried out—Jessica had fallen into a dry well in the backyard.

Soon after, police, firefighters, and rescue teams came.

The well was only 6 to 7 meters deep, but the entrance was only 20 centimeters. It was impossible for adults to go down.

The most urgent thing was to figure out Jessica's condition in the well.

The rescue team first supplied oxygen to the well to prevent Jessica from suffocating, and then installed specialized detection equipment to observe the movement from below.

The moment the detection equipment entered the well, everyone at the scene was sweating. I expected the child's crying or commotion, but I didn't want it to be quiet.

But it was Jessica's favorite children's song, not desperate crying.

Jessica was only a year and a half old, still unable to speak properly and walk. But how strong was she without seeing or hearing anything in a dark, closed space.

Soon, the rescue team brought a large rat hole drill and drilled a tunnel 76 centimeters wide and eight meters deep.

The rock was so hard that it was very difficult to dig the tunnel.

Forty-five hours later, the tunnel was finally cleared, and firefighter Robert O'Donnell volunteered to go down and rescue.

Entering the tunnel, O'Donnell crawled forward carefully. After 13 hours of effort, he finally lifted Jessica safely.

What everyone found was that Jessica's right toe was badly injured and a long cut to her forehead. However, Jessica didn't cry or make a scene, but rather smiled and waved to her mother.

This scene made everyone cry.

After that, Jessica became a "child loved by the whole nation" and met with the then-U.S. president and his wife.

In 2007, Jessica appeared on Today, an American TV show. She was already an adult at the age of 20, and had been married the previous year after graduating from high school.

In 2012, Jessica received millions of dollars in funds raised by good people when she fell into a well.

Jessica doesn't remember at the time, but O'Donnell, who saved her, never forgot...

For a hell of 13 hours, O'Donnell almost went mad, holding back the pain, and only the rescue will held him out.

After Jessica was safe, O'Donnell became a hero. Journalists knocked on the door every day, and he had to talk about the miserable experience over and over again.

Every time we talked, it was as if we were experiencing it again, which caused O'Donnell to suffer from severe psychological disorders and claustrophobia.

As the Jessica rescue incident calmed down, O'Donnell, who was left alone, fell into a deep depression. His condition worsened, and he ended his life on his own.
