Andersen Horowitz, who used to sing "Software is eating the world" with "Software-as-a-Service" is now shouting "Service-as-a-Software."

It may seem like a pun, but it's something that the IT industry (especially in SW, service) needs to keep their heads up and study.

I have a well-organized newsletter about this so I share it (link to attached comments)

- It seems that it simply changed the back and forth of the word, but its meaning is much deeper. The era of "software of services" means that software replaces many services that had to be performed by humans. With the rapid spread of these services represented by AI agents, the functions we expect from software are changing itself.

- Automation is now evolving to a new level through AI, which is changing beyond the stage of utilizing software for work to the way software performs services.

- 'Software-as-a-service' is a vast market opportunity to bring the entire service industry into the software domain, including sales, marketing, development, recruiting, HR, accounting, and security

- Now the software is responsible for delivering the results that customers want. Not just providing tools, but becoming an agent and performing tasks instead.

- This means a paradigm shift. Software will now evolve into a production tool, not a productivity tool. In the past, charging per sheet with the goal of increasing productivity by 20 to 30 percent will lead to a model that charges per sheet with 100% automation.

- 과거: "Software is eating the world" ==> 미래: "AI is eating your service"

- For software companies in the age of AI, the quality of services provided will be more important than the simple number of users or subscription retention rate
