Nvidia Confirms HBM4 In Next-Generation AI Chip 'Rubin'..."Shortened the release cycle to one year"
Rubin is the next version of Blackwell, which was introduced this year.
Specifically, Rubin plans to apply HBM4 to its GPU to implement AI semiconductor chips. This is the first time that Nvidia has revealed whether its next-generation semiconductor chips will be equipped with HBM4.
Currently, the HBM developed by SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Micron is the fifth-generation HBM3E. HBM4 is a next-generation product currently being developed by memory companies and is expected to be completed next year
The existing Rubin has eight HBMs, while the high-performance Rubin Ultra has 12 HBMs. It is also the first time for Nvidia to use 12 HBMs in its AI semiconductor chips. Demand for HBMs is expected to expand
It is also noteworthy that Nvidia has accelerated the launch cycle of AI semiconductor chips.
Nvidia has introduced A-series such as A100 with ampere structure in 2020, H-series such as H100 with hopper structure in 2022, and Blackwell this year. The launch of Robin next year is a shortened two-year launch period to one year. Considering that Blackwell unveiled it in March and plans to mass-produce it in the second half of this year, Rubin is also expected to supply products at the end of next year.
