China's technology (traffic light that makes self-driving easier):
As I go to China, I observe Chinese technology. First, there are many technologies that have succeeded in catching up with Korea and advanced countries. Representatively, they are mobile phones and electric vehicles. Mobile phones are a lot of cheap and good products because Chinese companies are fiercely competing for the top spot. Foldable phones are often spotted in China, but they are not usually Samsung Electronics' foldable phones. Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo are said to make foldable phones. Chinese people's love of luxury goods is famous. It's a sign that I'm not a stranger to luxury goods in a large population. That's why mobile phones are also very much in love with Apple, but last year, Apple fell to fourth place. Not only that, but for electric cars, BYD led Tesla.
Second, technologies that even developed countries have never seen before are quickly adopted. They are infrastructures that require the will of the state in many cases. Today, I will explain traffic lights in China. Traffic lights in China are red and green, and on top of them are indicators that the signal lasts for several seconds. If the red light is 60 seconds, 60, 59, 58 and the number decreases. So that's not surprising. But when I look at the taxi driver's cellphone navigation app, the number appears the same. In other words, if a taxi reaches four streets and is green, the sign that the green color lasts for several more seconds appears not only in traffic lights but also in navigation. The time to change traffic lights across China is shared. In my opinion, such infrastructure is very helpful for autonomous driving. One difficulty in self-driving cars is having to accurately recognize traffic lights. When you ride a Tesla now, you can see red and blue traffic lights. But there are many places where people get confused about traffic lights at three-way intersection. There is a difficulty for a beginner in that neighborhood, whether to see traffic lights in front of me or follow traffic lights across four streets. Moreover, you need to know pedestrian traffic lights when you turn right these days. But if the location and time of the traffic lights are shared like this, you can travel without any problems even if you don't recognize the traffic lights well.
Anyway, during this trip, I thought that autonomous driving would be the first thing to do in China. That's how much preparation is being made. I wonder why people in China are developing technology that cares so much for people, but it is also a characteristic of the Chinese people to just work hard. According to my personal information, this technology development is being promoted by the Chinese Communist Party. (Korea is also planning to start a pilot operation from 2023. There is a problem with predictive start.)
