The fact that Japan completed the knowledge economy with quality management as a weapon in the 1980s and dominated the U.S. market in the automobile and home appliance industries came as a huge shock to the U.S. government and industry, and the Kennedy Investigation Committee's findings were surprisingly finding that it was an American named Deming who led Japan's quality management.
One of the measures to put Japan, which is chasing the U.S. under its chin, was the Plaza Agreement, which forced the yen's exchange rate to appreciate, and from the perspective of industrial policy, it was to change the game to an "innovative economy" through value management. The person in the picture on the right below is Engelbart, who is unfamiliar to the extent that few people in the IT industry know him.
However, this is the person who first developed the concepts and core technologies of personal computers and local area networks, enabling the revolution of the information industry in the United States. Engelbart, who was in charge of computer lab at SRI, was commissioned to develop a computer that can be used during war by DARPA in the US in the mid-1960s, and in 1969, a computer technology demonstration that combined technologies such as mouse, GUI, and network was evaluated to have included all the core technologies of the information industry implemented later on the PC and the Internet.
Later, in the late 1970s, Xerox's Palo Alto lab developed the first PC, ALTO, and its practical use was achieved by Steve Jobs' Macintosh and Bill Gates' IBM PC. In the late 1990s, as the Internet, another product of DARPA's research and development, became practical, the US government introduced a policy called Internet Superhighway during the Clinton era, surpassing Japan, which dominated the US market with quality management as a weapon, and Japan began its lost 30 years.
On the other hand, traditional U.S. companies have accepted quality management, and Motorola and GE have begun the six-sigma movement, which resulted in Motorola failing early and GE eventually failing after repeated crashes, and one of Jack Welch's students, who led the six-sigma at GE, has been appointed Boeing's president and is crashing Boeing.
As such, the government's industrial policy determines the fate of the country, and Japan has taken the initiative from the United States, which has re-established itself as an innovative economy after taking the fruits of leading the transition from an industrial economy to a knowledge economy.
Korea has worked hard on quality management, but it has also been pushing ahead with the digital innovation economy quickly, creating a miracle that overtakes Japan, but there are still people who do not understand it well and need to learn Japan.
Also, it is necessary to understand that changing the plate has a devastating effect on a country's competitiveness. The representative industry is changing the plate from fossil fuels to renewable electricity energy, and there are so many 'experts' who are not aware of the delay in energy transfer!!
