I heard that the Marx economics lecture will disappear at Seoul National University, and I can see things about it. Many of those words seem to have been said without knowing the meaning of the lecture.

Seoul National University is being treated as the source of evil in Korea these days, but it does not mean that it has no positive meaning at all. The most important meaning is that it is a school that researches a lot of non-mainstream areas that are not worth money. Of course, Seoul National University is not the only one who studies "non-mainstream areas that are not worth money," but it was a clear advantage that Seoul National University often has. And such "I value academic research" was the unique atmosphere of Seoul National University.
I heard that Seoul National University Medical School was not the best in Seoul National University's science cut line before the IMF reflected that atmosphere.

That's the case with Marx's economics.

As you may all know, the mainstream economics of Korea today is American econometrics. That's how people who have been trained in economics view economics. However, that's not the only field in economics. Economics is, after all, a branch of social science, and there is economics that considers the social science aspect more important. Marx economics is one of those non-mainstream economics.

The limitations of Marx economics are obvious. I was interested in Marx economics itself, so I bought and read a collection of papers that are rarely found in Korea, but at least in terms of economics, there are logical flaws.
However, the impact of Marx's ideas on the social sciences is absolute. It is not an exaggeration to say that none of the social sciences after Marx's are free from Marx's influence. In that sense, it was very significant to have a professor of Marx economics at Seoul National University. That's why a Marx economics major was a professor in Seoul National University's economics department even during the harsh military regime.

However, after Professor Kim Soo-haeng, an expert in Marx economics at Seoul National University, retired, Seoul National University no longer appointed an expert in Marx economics as a professor. Even though the military regime was after the end of the game, Seoul National University's academic level has retreated. Still, the famous lecture on Marx economics at Seoul National University was maintained through outside instructors, but the news is that Seoul National University finally quit even that.

This case shows that Seoul National University is continuously retreating academically as well. While the fact that SNU's science and engineering department became a medical school shows the academic retreat of SNU's science and engineering department, I think this case shows the academic fall of SNU's liberal arts department.
